Eyeglasses As Part of a Halloween Costume

Do you have a great Halloween costume in mind and the finishing touch will be a pair of designer eyeglasses? Dressing up as a famous figure in history, such as Theodore Roosevelt or as our favorite mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent will both require a pair of good old fashion spectacles.

There are a whole slew of other characters that you may want glasses for. The trick is to find a pair that will work for your costume and will not cost a fortune. Especially because you will probably only be wearing them once.

Once you have the style in mind that you are looking for, all you have to do is find the pair at a reasonable price.

At the very high end, you can walk in to your local optical shop and ask for a pair of frames with no lenses or lenses that are referred to as plano. Plano means the lenses have no correction. Optical quality frames will set you back anywhere from $60 to a couple hundred dollars. While they will look very nice, this approach may be going a bit overboard for the average Halloween event.

On the other end of the spectrum, you might find a suitable pair at the costume shop. They usually have basic plastic styles for costumes such as Harry Potter or the librarian. But the picking may be very slim. Costume style eyeglasses may do for most cases.

A third option is to look for low power reading glasses. These are very inexpensive, usually in the $10 to $40 range for basic styles and if you can find a pair with a very low power (+1.00 or less) they will not be terribly uncomfortable to wear. You will find a great variety in styles that can match up to any costume idea you may have.

Regarding your vision, a low power reading glass will not hurt your eyes, but it will slightly blur your distance vision. You can always simply pop the lenses out. The glasses will still look real as part of the costume.

It should go without saying that you should never drive while wearing any aspect of a costume on your face. Including dress up glasses or Halloween masks. Have a great Halloween.
