Many eye doctors agree that the most significant stressor on your eyes, is your daily exposure to the sun’s ultra violet light spectrum. This light spectrum is also often referred to as UV light.
Common stressor’s on the eye include UV light, salt in sea water, chlorine in pools. So what can you do to protect your eyes ? One way is to explore all options in protective eye wear. Goggles for swimmers, beach hats, sunglasses with UV protection and now – contact lenses with UV protection built in.
Many of today’s most popular brands incorporate an ultraviolet blocker in the lens material, to cut down on UV light that can lead to eye strain, eye damage and in some cases even cause cataracts. The UV blockers are invisible to the human eye and can only be seen under extreme magnification. It goes without saying that regardless of what brand you may wear, no lens will cover your entire eye. Additionally, UV blockers in contact lenses do not fully substitute for traditional sun protection like sunglasses.
While there are a wide selection of lens options on the market today – one of the more popular brands is the Acuvue Moist brand. Acuvue Moist contact lenses are made by Johnson & Johnson and are available at your eye doctors or online at reputable e-tailers. Before trying any brand of contact lens, be sure to check with your eye care professional as, in most countries – you will need a prescription.
While you enjoy the remainder of this wonderful summer season, remember that it’s important to wear sunglasses or some sort of eye protection if you work outdoors or are exposed to the sun for long periods of time.
