Hard contact lens is just one of several types of optical lenses in the market, which is also believed to be quite beneficial. Conventional ones are produced using stiff plastic and intended to correct vision without any distortion. These ones are a bit uncomfortable to wear. Meanwhile, the second type is more comfortable to wear and is made out of rigid gas-permeable lenses.
Despite the benefits of wearing a hard contact lens, such as clarity of vision for up to 5 or 10 years, only a few people wear this type of optical lens. Prior to 1971, most of the eye lenses are made out of PMMA. When the gas permeable lenses were introduced into the market, it provided way for oxygen to make it through the cornea and providing convenience to the wearer.
When it comes to durability, hard contact lens also last longer than soft ones. Newer versions of them are made out of silicone polymers that provide better circulation of oxygen around your cornea. Another great benefit that you can enjoy for wearing these lenses is the ability to achieve clearer vision, among other forms of visual corrections. And yet, they are very easy to take off.
But the ability to enjoy its durability and long lasting quality only depends on how well you take care of your lenses. This is very important especially if you intend to wear it on a daily basis to ensure that you can enjoy maximum functionality out of them.
There are also hard contact lens that come in extended wear options, such that you can wear it overnight. In other types of lenses, this is not allowed since doing so will limit the amount of oxygen that flows into your cornea. But this one is specifically designed to provide better deposit resistance as compared to soft lenses. On the other hand, you won’t experience any of that “spectacle blur” that most people encounter.
