Bausch and Lomb is an American company with its headquarters in New York. The company is a world leader in the supply of contact lenses and lens care products today. The company operates in 36 countries and was originally founded in the year 1853 by two German immigrants John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb.
Although the company had modest origins as it stated out with the manufacture of eyeglass frames and other vision products, it has now made a name for itself in the contact lens sector.
The contact lenses section was launched by the company after three year of intensive development and research. The Food and Drug Administration approvals took another two years making the total investment by the company run up to three million dollars.
The first contact lenses launched by the company in 1971 were made of Poly – HEMA. This was a breakthrough as compared to the existing varieties that were made of glass or acrylic glass.
The new lenses were an instant hit with consumers as they were flexible, softer and gave more comfort. The launch also paved way for the term soft lens that has now become part of standard vocabulary.
The company has been adding models to its line continuously. You will find other varieties beside the basic “SofLens One Day” soft contact lens range. The basic lens pack has daily disposable lenses. Other variants are changed every two weeks.
These include the “SofLens Comfort” or “Sequence” lenses. In the toric range, the company has brought out “SofLens66 Toric” that gives wearers comfort and astigmatism free vision for an extended period of time.
Lenses from the “Boston” range and “Purevision” range have far superior oxygen diffusion as compared to other varieties. These are advised for sensitive or dry eyes. The latter range has given exceptional performance and can be worn without removal for up to 30 days at a stretch.
