My Own Contact Lens Experience – Part 1

I had always to clean my glasses so I could see better, or I had to remove them a while, because they were hurting my ears and my nose. After few years, someone told me about contact lenses, about how many advantages have. It didn’t seem something pleasant at that time, so I looked up on the internet and after a while I visited an ophthalmologist. He convinced me to try wearing contact lenses, at the beginning wearing only daily contact lenses.

In a couple of weeks my prescription was complete, and I was ready to wear my first pair of contact lenses, for testing them. Being the first time, the doctor put them in and explained me carefully how do I have to take them off, and put them in again. It was quite easy, when I didn’t have to do anything. But at home, when I was alone, in front of the mirror, I couldn’t do anything. I was just standing there and wondering how do I have to take them off. I couldn’t introduce my fingers into my eyes to do that. It was impossible for me in that moment.

I knew I couldn’t take them off by myself so I went back to my doctor, and explained him my problem. I was a little shy at the beginning, because I wasn’t a kid, I was a grown-up and I couldn’t defeat my fear. My surprise was that the doctor expected to come back, because, he told me, most of the patients do that. The majority have problems at the beginning, when they first wear contact lenses, and they have to put them in and remove them. I was a little more released when I had found out that, I wasn’t that ashamed. After another round of explanations, I tried the second time to remove them. As you expected, I stand quite long till I got courage to do it. But the first step was the most difficult. After I got used with putting in and removing them, and after the test period expired, I decided to buy my own pair of contact lenses.

At the beginning I was wearing daily contact lenses, but know I have extended wear lenses and I don’t have problems of any kind. I clean them properly, and my eyes are just fine. I don’t have to clean them, I don’t have problems when I pass from cold to hot, and they don’t hurt, like glasses.
