You’re on your way to the airport off on a business trip or a traveling adventure and as you pack your bags you wonder what the protocol is for flying with your eyeglasses and how best to take care of them while you’re away.
The truth is, traveling with eyeglasses is simple, and it just requires a little care so as to protect them from breakage or scratching.
Firstly, that protective glasses case that you received when you bought your eyeglasses – ALWAYS have them in a bag on hand so that if you don’t want to wear your eyeglasses, you can pop them into their box. When you are on the plane (or bus, or train) and you decide that you need a nap, never sleep with your glasses on, never put them on your head and never take them off and slip them into the seat pouch in front of you – ALWAYS put them into the protective case. As a side note, if you ensure to always do this, then the chances of losing your eyeglasses is lessened as you’ll know that they’re always in their case, in your bag! For low-key daily walks and tours you can also buy a non-expensive glasses strap or rope in order to hold the glasses around your neck and help to prevent misplacing. Remember though, if you’re jumping around and going to be in crowds, then this is not a good choice as you run the risk of having them fly around and get scratched if you are bumping into things or people.
Your new eyeglasses also come with a special non-scratch cleaning cloth and this is the only material that should ever be used to clean your lenses. Not tissues and not your t-shirt. Use the non-scratch cloth and clean it by passing over water and then putting out to dry. That’s it!
Now, unless you’re intending to spend all of your daylight hours indoors, sunglasses are a must in order to protect your eyes from dangerous UVA and UVB rays. You could also think of adding extra UV protective coating and premium anti-reflective coating to all of your glasses – sunglasses and regular – in order to further protect your eyes and assist in optimizing your time away.
Another top tip is to keep a copy of your most recent eyeglasses prescription on hand so that should a mishap occur, you always have a fall-back plan and can quickly and easily order glasses online and have them delivered to your chosen destination, ANYWHERE in the world! Isn’t this better and far less time consuming than trying to find an offline store and then work out a deal with an offline retailer in a foreign language?
Don’t underestimate the power of your sight to make or break your time away – optimal vision is essential to the success of any trip – be it business or pleasure. For your viewing pleasure follow the tips above and happy travels!
